"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits." - Psalm 103:2
"Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children." - Deuteronomy 4:9
"Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that He has done, His miracles and the judgments He uttered." - 1 Chronicles 16:11-12
ESV; emphases mine.
I want to delve into these verses more at some point, but for now, I want to encourage you to remember. Remember not only what God has done in your life and the lives of those around you, but what He has done for His people throughout the ages.
Remembering is not always comfortable. Remembering what God has brought me through sometimes brings up painful emotions. Even knowing that God has rescued me from countless pits does not erase the pain of those pits. But beyond that pain, there is comfort, gratitude, joy, and a thirst to tell my story, to add it to the stories of generations of saints, that those to come may be comforted and encouraged. The Lord is always faithful and just.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.
